Many homeowners can be confused when they need new rain gutters and must effectively analyze all quotes submitted. Differences in options and services can lead to price variations among bidders. Below are key eavestrough bid components:

1- Materials Used to Make Gutters

Although most Canadian gutters are made of aluminum, some gutter systems are made of copper or steel. Copper is expensive and durable.

Aluminum is available in a wide range of colours, usually at no extra charge. It also comes in a variety of thicknesses that can affect the project’s cost.

2- Gutters’ Width

You may be offered various gutter widths (generally five or six inches) depending on the installation company. The wider the gutters, the more expensive they will be, as more material is used for manufacturing.

3- Fastening System Used to Install Gutters

Depending on the installation professional, the most basic fastening system may consist of spikes or hangers. This is the cheapest option and also the weakest and least durable.

The T-Rex continuous hanging system is the new standard in gutter fastening. Serving both installation and protection purposes, it is a great way to reduce gutter maintenance. The hanger system prevents water infiltration caused by clogs when the top of the gutter is closed.

The T-Rex XL is the ultimate gutter fastening system. It is extremely tough and the best way to protect your gutters from the weight of snow and ice in difficult conditions such as tin or pitched roofs. While it also helps prevent tiger stripes from appearing on the gutter front, the T-Rex XL is usually the most expensive fastening system on the market.

4- Downspout Options

Size and number of downspouts affect bid price. The more material used, the higher the price. Some options, such as funnels or rain chains, can also increase the cost of your eavestrough system.

However, an insufficient number of downspouts or undersized downspouts can lead to overflows and water infiltration.

5- Additional Accessories

Perhaps you would like to have some of your own accessories, or you may decide to opt for the accessories your installer provides. You could have a higher gutter bid if you have leaf guard, downspout extensions, rain barrels or other similar accessories.

6- Attention to Minor Installation Details and Installer Warranties

Attention to detail varies among installation companies. Although meticulousness has its advantages, it affects the requested price.

For example, prefabricated corners require less time to install, but are less aesthetically pleasing. Consequently, many industry professionals prefer to make their corners by hand. With fewer joints and less sealing material, these corners are less likely to leak.

Similarly, installers who eyeball the slope of the gutter get the job done much faster. Measuring the slope with a level is the only way to ensure the perfect angle!

Each company offers a warranty. Warranties may differ depending on the options you choose. Labour and parts—both offered by the installer—usually come with a warranty and a manufacturer’s warranty on the fastening system.
